About this item

These pages don’t tell you what Jesus did — you know that already! Instead, they take you into the mind and heart of the Son of God in a way you may not have thought possible. You’ll come to understand the inner logic of Jesus’ ministry: why He did what He did, including puzzling aspects of His life — ones that may trouble your mind and your faith.

You’ll find out why Jesus’ life had to take the course it took — why He couldn’t have been the earthly King many were expecting, and why He couldn’t have conformed to the conventional ideas of a warrior, a hero, or even just a successful man.

You’ll even see why He had to be abandoned by everyone — including His disciples — yet His Father remained close to Him then, just as He remains close to you now. Your new insight into why Jesus chose His particular paths then will illuminate the paths He is choosing for you now, for which you’ll be filled with gratitude!

Let your newfound knowledge of Jesus blossom into joy as — directed by these pages — you open yourself to the One whose whole being will resound in your heart and will nourish your soul.

"No writer of the 20th Century has probed more profoundly the mystery of Jesus Christ than has Romano Guardini ... Any serious reader will discover unfathomable riches here."

"As we are taught by Guardini, the essence of Christianity is not an idea, not a system of thought, not a plan of action. To become truly real means to come to know Jesus Christ and to learn what it means to be human."

Pope Benedict XVI

Great author and spiritual writer
Becoming addicted to all his writings. While I have read books on the life of Christ, Fr. Romano's approach focuses on the teachings of Christ as individual topics which help us know Him better as the Son of God and Our Savior.

Reading this is just like following a medieval Lectio Divina
A very special book that allows for ample contemplation on the ways Jesus revealed himself and acted in the world. Fairly short chapters allow the reader to think on and understand different aspects of Christ. Guardini's insights are superb and not overwhelming. Reading this is just like following a medieval Lectio Divina: one goes step-by-step deeper into contemplating a central mystery of the Christian faith. A real spiritual classic!
