About this item

Is Catholicism more than giving up beer or chocolate for Lent?

Even if it is good beer or great chocolate the answer is a resounding yes! In fact, we are called to have such faith that when others meet us they actually see Christ. But how do we do that in a world where Notre Dame means football and not Our Lady?

By following the lead of so many before us...

We have living examples of holy men and women who overcame the same types of temptations we face and shortcomings we all have, to become huge, blinking neon signs that pointed to Jesus. And if they can do it so can we... with a little practice.

Author, speaker, and Catholic convert Matthew Leonard combines the stories of the saints’ triumphs and struggles along with his own personal anecdotes and wry humor to show us all a fresh take on the art of being truly Catholic in a contemporary world.

Excellent read. I laughed out loud at Mr. Leonard's hilarious examples. Very good theology. I plan to give it to my RCIA classes.

Delightful and profound
Matt Leonard writes in an engaging manner and his book captures you from the start. It as if he is in the room conversing with you. His style is captivating in that you are reading along, enjoying his stories and then all of a sudden he says something so deep and profound that you have to go back and read it again. He also uses so many great quotes that I was constantly going back to check his citations. His suggestions on living as a Catholic are timely and doable for us all if we will it. I would recommend this book to everyone!

Awesome book
I've been reading a bunch of books on Catholic spirituality lately, and this is one of the best I've come across. Matt Leonard has a gift for writing. He doesn't just explain very clearly the basics of living an authentically Catholic life; he manages to make it really fun as well. He shows a great sense of humor in this book, which makes time fly by when reading it. There were plenty of times when I looked up and realized I had been reading for longer than I thought I had.

Don't know how to pray?
I think a lot of us are afraid to admit we don't know how to pray. We all know we should pray, but then we try and find out it's harder than we thought. So despite our good intentions, we give up after a few days. If this has happened to you, then this is the book for you. The book is so engaging and readable, you realize Matt is just a normal guy - and if this normal guy is striving to be a saint, so can you.

A good place to start
As I begin to delve more into the faith that has always just felt right, I look for texts that can teach in a thoughtful, engaging manner without being too mind blowing. Mr. Leonard's book had just the right mix of humor, theology, and presentation I didn't even realize I was looking for.
