What am I, a chief investment officer of one of the country’s largest investment managers, doing hailing down strangers at night on the streets of New York City?

“Are you Catholic?” my friends and I ask. “Would you like a rosary? Would you like to go to confession here tonight?”

“Are you kidding?” responds one man. “Been there, done that!” says another. “God, no!” chimes in a fast-walking atheist.

“You Catholics are all pedophiles!” yells one angry woman. Another hands us a bag of dog poop. Sixty-year-old Michael even has advice: “Why don’t you evangelize out in the Middle East, where they need you?”

“We’re needed here,” we respond. “This city needs Jesus, too. It needs His love.”

Some nights the tide turns in the Lord’s favor. A young woman approaches us, decked out in showy attire. “Are you guys really Catholic? I didn’t think there were any Catholics left! Can I have a purple rosary?”

“Sure! Where are you going? We have lots to talk about.”

“I’ve got to run! I’m a stripper. But I’m going to pray with this rosary.”

At times, the neighborhood even begins rooting for us. Strangers call out: “Way to go!” “Your courage is inspiring!”

We’re in our groove now, engaging strangers with joy — and seeing some of them later in church. On the rough streets of the City, working shoulder-to-shoulder with Christ, we’re no longer alone; we feel God’s grace.

You will, too, as you read the dozens of riveting – and often funny – stories in these pages, about ordinary Catholics from the financial sector evangelizing their wary New York neighbors. Indeed, so fascinating are their experiences, you may be tempted one day to join them.

"Auth reveals that the toughness and humanity that allowed him to be a Wall Street star also allowed him to try to save souls on the mean streets of New York. "

Can you really meet Jesus in Manhattan?
The Missionary of Wall Street is an uplifting non-fiction book about the Mercy and Love of Jesus Christ revealed through lay missionaries. The book also serves as a How To Guide to launch a mission. I enjoyed Steve Auth’s use of humor as he clearly recounts stories about people, pups and poop. Who could believe that Catholics could Evangelize on street corners of Manhattan? A compelling question for any reader is where is God in my life and what is the purpose of life? Has the Love of God touched you? With just the touch of Jesus’ tassel the Hemorrhaging Woman was transformed. But that story was in the Bible. How exactly could anyone be a street missionary? I hope this book will surprise you as it did me. You won’t be disappointed by The Missionary of Wall Street. Cathy Sapeta - Entepreneur, Educator, Evangelist

Welcome Home!
The only qualifications you need to be a member of the Catholic Church is that you need to be a sinner. Unfortunately many people don’t re-enter the Church due to past sins, fortunately the individuals in this book are like the Father of the Prodigal Son, welcoming them back through forgiveness and love. Good intentions don’t save lives (souls)but action (Love) does. The Missionary of Wall Street is a true story of how the ordinary can become the extraordinary!

The road to Emmaus via Wall Street
This provocative reflection is a multifaceted chronicle of true conversion. It is a memoir that begins in mid life, with an epiphany in a hospital bed. It is a story of one man's surrender to the Holy Spirit and his call to action. It is an homage to the the diversity of the people of New York City. It is a diy guide to missionary work. And finally, it is a reminder that goodness and love ultimately prevail.

The Missionary of Wall Street is a Powerful Love Story
A thoughtful reflection on what it is to be faithful in the modern world, The Missionary of Wall Street is in turns a fascinating account of Mr. Auth’s experiences as a missionary in New York and a guide for Catholics who would like to be missionaries in their own communities. The book’s unflinching look at missionary work on the streets of Soho and the lives of individuals encountered by the missionaries will make this book appealing to Catholics and non-Catholics alike. The book begins with Mr. Auth’s own journey back to Catholicism through his own near-death experience. Mr. Auth’s examination of his own relationship with Catholicism and his struggle to balance work, family and faith is one that will be relatable to many readers. As Mr. Auth weaves this personal narrative with stories about the objections and stumbling blocks that many missionaries encounter on the streets of New York, the reader is painted a rich picture of how people from all walks of life and backgrounds can become closer to God. At its core, the book is a testament to the power of faith and perseverance. Several times throughout the book Mr. Auth reflects on instances where he was unsuccessful in appealing to individuals who were later able to connect with another missionary in the group. The reader encounters Mr. Auth dusting himself off, time and time again, and approaching the next individual with a joyful heart in a powerful account of the impact you can make when you never, ever give up.
