What is beauty?

Why does it matter?

Watch John-Mark Miravalle,
author of Beauty, introduce the
#ShareTrueBeauty Challenge.

From the moment we wake up until the moment we lay down to rest at night, we see countless images. Forbes Magazine estimates that the average American sees around 4,000 to 10,000 ads per day. Your phone, your computer, and your tv are just a few of the different devices that deliver these images to us throughout the day.

Many of the images we see are not pleasant or inspiring. They lack beauty, truth and goodness. The effects of these images on our minds and souls cannot be underestimated. Christ tells us in Matthew 6:22-23, "If your eye is sound, your whole body will be filled with light; but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be in darkness…”

Enter the #ShareTrueBeauty Challenge.

Based on the principles shared in John-Mark Miravalle’s book Beauty: What It Is and Why It Matters, we want to flood our social media feeds with beautiful images that inspire us and remind us of the meaning of life. Miravalle explains that “beauty makes us long for higher things, which motivates us to pursue higher things, which leads to our ultimate fulfillment.”

How the Challenge Works

  1. Think about the beauty you see in your daily life. It could be a lake or hill you see on your drive to work or a piece of sacred art at your home or office.
  2. Take a picture.
  3. Then reflect on why it is beautiful.
  4. Post your photo along with a caption of why its beautiful and the following hashtags:
    1. #ReclaimBeauty
    2. #MiravalleBeauty
  5. Tag two friends and challenge them to #ShareTrueBeauty.
